University body gives green light to online exams
The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh gave clearance to public universities to hold examinations online in an attempt to reduce session jams amid the closure of educational institutions for the COVID outbreak, writes Ershad Kamol for New Age.The clearance was given after the UGC held a meeting with representatives of public universities based on a committee report that gave guidelines for public universities to maintain a minimum standard, the commission member Muhammad Alamgir told New Age on Thursday 6 May. “The academic councils of the universities will decide whether they will hold examinations online considering [on the] ground realities,” Alamgir said.
He claimed that the representatives of 46 public universities, which are now in operation, in the online meeting with the commission agreed to hold the semester finals online. The draft report for holding online examinations would be placed at the education ministry soon for its approval, Alamgir said.
