UGC targets 30% enrolment in higher education by 2020

The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India has set a target to increase the gross enrolment ratio in higher education to 30% by 2020 from the present 25.4%, reports PTI.

UGC Chairman DP Singh said last Wednesday the commission has also set certain objectives to improve the quality of higher education in institutions.

“The objectives include regular revision of curriculum with clearly specified learning outcomes and soft skills, enabling youth to secure access to employment or self-employment, developing social-industry connect, availability of motivated teachers and accreditation to ensure qualitative self-improvement in higher education institutions,” he said.
