CUBA: Iranian president receives honorary doctorate

The Iranian president has been granted an honorary doctorate because of his incomparable efforts in defence of the establishment of a just international system as well as nations' rights against capitalist powers, Havana University declared, reports the Islamic Republic News Agency.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denounced capitalism during his speech at the University of Havana, the oldest university in Cuba and one of the first to be founded in the Americas. Originally a religious institution, today the institution has 15 faculties at its Havana campus and distance learning centres throughout Cuba.

The Iranian president arrived in Havana and was welcomed at the airport by high-ranking officials last Wednesday. He left Managua for Havana after meeting with Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, on the third leg of his four-nation tour of Latin America.
