SWAZILAND: Students want king to fund university

Students want Swaziland's absolute monarch, King Mswati III, to dig into his pockets to fund the country's only university, which has been shut due to financial problems, reports News24. Nearly 200 University of Swaziland students marched to the gates of the institution demanding that it be re-opened. Officials said they needed US$11 million to resume classes.

"We are going to draw up a petition calling on the king to release money from his pockets since we know he has the money," Sibusiso Nhlabatsi, Vice-president of the student representative council, told AFP. Students were also unhappy that the super-rich king's eldest daughter, Princess Sikhanyiso, had enrolled for a masters degree at an Australian university while they could not go to classes, representatives said.
