US: Report looks at campus shootings

A new report jointly issued by the Secret Service, the Department of Education and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) examines targeted violent incidents on higher education campuses in the United States, writes Genevieve Long in the Epoch Times.

The 40-page report is titled Campus Attacks: Targeted violence affecting institutions of higher education, and is available online on the participating agency websites.

After the April 2007 attack on Virginia Tech campus in West Virginia in which 32 people were killed by a lone gunman, a report to the President recommended that the Secret Service, Department of Education and FBI examine violence at institutions of higher education. It was the worst attack of its kind in US history.

The report stated that the goal of inter-agency collaboration was to "understand the scope of the problem of targeted violence" at higher education institutions. The fundamental questions it attempted to address were where, when and how incidents occurred. It also made connections between those committing violence and the institutions where the violence occurred.
