NEPAL: Scholarships for the poor countrywide
The Student Financial Support Fund Development Committee (SFSFDC), which falls under the University Grant Commission, is set to provide scholarships to meritorious students from poor and disadvantaged communities across Nepal, in a bid to make higher education more accessible, reports The Himalayan Times. The scholarships will be provided to students studying at the intermediate and bachelor levels. The main objective of the plan is to provide higher education opportunities to hard-working students from poor and under-developed communities across the country, said Prof Dr Ram Dev Tiwari, executive director of the SFSFDC.
The scholarship programme was launched last year in 22 districts in mid-western and far-western regions except Humla and Jumla districts. This year the committee has extended the plan to all 75 districts.
