VIETNAM: Boosting ties with China

Vietnam plans to strengthen its educational cooperation with China, especially training at least 1,000 PhD students in China in the next 12 years, said Nguyen Thien Nhan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Training, at a meeting with China's Education Minister Zhou Ji in Beijing, reports ThanhnienNews.com.

The two countries will improve scientific research and encourage students to study subjects including social and natural sciences, the arts and health care, Nhan said. After their talks, the two ministers signed an agreement on recognising the validity and legality of certificates and diplomas issued by the two countries' training bodies.

Last year, the two-way trade turnover between the two countries surpassed US$20 billion and the two countries completed border demarcation and, they said, adding the two countries should strengthen bilateral cooperation in the face of the current financial crisis.
