KENYA: Government to improve quality in universities
Kenya's government has admitted that quality in universities is low and needs immediate improvement. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Professor Crispus Kiamba, said efforts to address the issue were underway and that a regional approach had been taken.Kiamba, who officiated in the opening of an internal quality assurance workshop for deans, chairs and quality assurance officers from various universities, said quality in university education demanded the establishment of an all-inclusive institutional culture.
"Kenya has received stinging criticism over the quality of the education in the recent past but we are addressing that," he told the workshop at the Kenya Communication Commission of Technology, adding that universities were now operating within a stronger quality framework which should enhance efficiency and make them more competitive globally.
