UK: Students poorly prepared for university
Students should be given more help at university amid fears they are "poorly prepared" for academic life, reports The Telegraph. A wide-ranging review published last week as part of a review of higher education policy by John Denham, the Skills Secretary, said some students needed more time with tutors and lecturers.Universities should also be graded by the number of students getting jobs at the end of courses, the review suggested, and it was claimed that universities should be more "flexible" to accommodate a rise in the number of students with different needs.
Ministers eventually want half of school-leavers to remain in education beyond the age of 18, but there are already fears the rise risks diluting university standards.
