US: New book on US-China educational exchange
The first issue in a new series of Global Education Research Reports has been published by the Institute of International Education (IIE). US-China Educational Exchange: Perspectives on a growing partnership's release coincides with the 30th anniversary of the US-China 'Understanding on the Exchange of Students and Scholars'."With close to 10,000 Americans studying in China, and almost 70,000 students and 10,000 Chinese scholars in the US, educational exchange is one of the best vehicles for the continuing development of constructive relations between the two countries," said Allan Goodman, president of the IIE, which specialises in the exchange of people and ideas, has 20 offices worldwide, more than 900 college and university members and 6,000 volunteers.
The IIE says the publication, also involving the cultural exchange organisation the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) and its foundation, seeks to expand practical information on US-China academic exchange available to policy-makers and practitioners.
It examines key issues in US-China exchange from multiple perspectives, with the goal of strengthening these relationships, and includes essays by American and Chinese experts from government and academia and chapters on exchange of teachers and students at secondary schools, exchange programmes for advanced scholars, government sponsored programmes in the US and China, and case studies on successful university linkages.
The book can be ordered from the Institute of International Education.
