SOUTH AFRICA: Cape Town up in THE-QS rankings

The University of Cape Town has been ranked 179th in the world in the Times Higher Education-QS rankings, improving its position from 200th place last year. In 2007 the university became the first in Africa to achieve a spot in the top 200, reports Independent Online.

In a statement last week, Cape Town vice-chancellor Max Price said it was "great" that the university was so well-rated. "As an institution, we constantly measure ourselves and the quality of our entire enterprise on our own well-developed set of criteria. This is an ongoing process aimed at continuously improving and strengthening our institution."
