TRINIDAD and TOBAGO: Call for creative energy

President of Trinidad and Tobago George Maxwell Richards has called for a change in university syllabuses to provide the intellectual and creative energy needed to enhance the economic performance of developing countries. He said that knowledge had become the critical factor in shaping economic life, reports the Trinidad and Tobago Express.

Speaking at an awards function of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Richards said student numbers had grown rapidly in the past five years, but less than 10% of the islands' working population had achieved tertiary education. This was way below the US with 38%, 36% in Japan and 26% in South Korea.
